Before and after, what a difference 3 years and 50,000 miles makes. Packing up the tent for the final time, the final morning on the final day. By mid November the nights get long, 14 dark hours long. 14 hrs is a long time to lay in a tent amongst scrub and sage with nothing but your own thoughts. A million memories of the past 3 years replayed in my mind and the future was unknown, but I was ready to go home, I'd been ready for longer than I realised, and I was happy. It is done. Same hole, another perspective - Whitmore Canyon Overlook - one of only 3 places you can ride into the Grand Canyon, and definitely the toughest. 5 miles down an old lava flow, made all the more arse twitching when you're riding on 2 tyres with less rubber on them than a Durex ultra thin. I think this rates as my favourite photo from the USA. In my mind's eye I had so many ideas for photos that just never worked out, even after moving the bike, moving the camera and changing location. This one on the other hand; stopped the bike, put down the camera, set the timer, walked towards the mountain and walked back to the camera - perfect. Back on the bike and riding across the desert in less than 2 minutes.
